Barbara was a long-time member of the Republican Trumpeteers of Adams County and is a former District II Director for the Colorado Federation of Republican Women. Barbara was an active volunteer for the Republican Party. Mary Dambman fondly remembers, “I recall her doing mailings at the 7th Congressional District Office in Jefferson County. She couldn’t do phone calls or walk, but she was there to do mailings all day for Bob Beauprez and Rick O’Donnell, and for US Senate and Presidential Candidates in 2008 and 2010. Sonny took her wherever she was needed.”
The service for Barbara will be held on Thursday, June 9, at 10:30 am. A viewing will be held prior to the service, at 9:30 am. Our President, Betty Jean Beall, will be preparing flowers for the service and would appreciate donations to cover the cost of the flowers. The announcement for the service is in today’s Denver Post.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 39 years, Clendon “Sonny” Fitzgerald, and four children. Sonny said that Barbara knew her time was coming and had time to say goodbye to family and close friends. Sonny also said that about a half hour before Barbara passed, she said she was ready to go be with her Lord.
We ask that you keep the Fitzgerald family in your prayers. Betty Jean Beall will be attending the service. If a ride is needed, please contact Betty Jean at (303) 426-7079.
Barbara Fitzgerald service details:
Thursday, June 9, at 10:30 am
Riverside Baptist Church
2401 Alcott Street
Denver, CO 80211

It is important to understand that this class is designed to be rigorous and challenging.
To that end, we ask that you please view at least the first two tapes in the "Commanding Heights" series before the first class. If you do not wish to purchase the series, many public libraries have the series to lend.

A NOTE FROM PENN PFIFFNER:

You have a strong love of freedom. It’s a natural part of being human. But too few of today’s adults were taught the fundamentals of a free society. We have a wonderful seminar to offer you. It pulls together the basic principles of liberty and a free market, showing you that these cohesive fundamentals allow society to work well, and to honor the individual. The course material springs from the great thinkers and achievers who shaped America. It is designed for business and community leaders and the general public as well as for college students.

The course makes the moral and philosophic case for free-market capitalism. One of the most important concepts of Western Civilization is the acquisition of property as an unalienable right. The course develops the relationship between economic liberty and political liberty. Participants learn the principles behind wealth-creation. They are introduced to the philosophy of the Austrian School of Economics and its connection to the founding ideas of the American experiment. Participants are awakened to their heritage of economic liberty. It will be more than worth your time.

Classes will meet for two Saturdays. The course is designed for business and community leaders, college students, and the general public. If desired, you may obtain three college credits through the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs by paying the usual college per-credit fee.

Come if you love liberty. Come if you love collectivism, but need to understand the libertarian position. Come if you want to receive an inexpensive, thorough, and energetic exposure to the founding principles of economic and political liberty.

Further questions? You may call the instructor, Penn Pfiffner, at 303-233-7731, or reach him at constecon@hotmail.com.

Official Call And Meeting Notice
Republican House District 31 Central Committee Meeting
The biennial organizational meeting for House District 31 Republican Central Committee shall be held
during a recess of the Adams County Republican Central Committee on:
Saturday, February 12, 2011
At: The Adams County Republican Central Committee Meeting
Adams County Fairgrounds
Our meeting begins: During a recess of the county central committee

In addition to biennial elections for House District 31 officers, District Captains, and electing a vacancy
committee, we will consider adopting the following changes to HD 31 bylaws:
? The Bylaws have been reformatted similar to Adams County (ACRC) Bylaws and include the
following procedural changes:
a. Update sections which were in conflict with Colorado election law: Membership, Meetings,
notification requirements of chairman, district assembly timeline, and vacancy committee process.
b. Incorporate ACRC process for electing District Captains.
c. Clarify processes and distinguish between two required vacancy committees.
d. Add section for designating a “default” vacancy committee if either the HDCC, or an assembly
fails to elect one.
e. Specify use of electronic notifications.
f. Add a Special Procedure for amending the bylaws
Keith Maines,
Chairman, House District 31 Central Committee

"There were definitely questionable things done that I would not have allowed to happen if I knew," said Marty Wisniewski, the chairman of the Adams County Democratic Party, which he said takes in about $24,000 each year in contributions. "We’re finding more and more."

Wisniewski indicated the former volunteer treasurer for the Adams County Democratic Party, Elmer "Butch" Hicks, is at the center of the controversy. Hicks went on to become treasurer for the Colorado Democratic Party, a position he abruptly resigned last week citing "personal reasons," according to Pat Waak, Colorado Democratic Party Chair.

According to Wiesniwski, Adams County Democrats initiated an audit last summer encompassing the previous three years when Hicks controlled the books. He said the audit revealed "discrepancies in funds. It wasn’t perfect, that’s for sure." In recent months, Wiesniwski said the former treasurer has reimbursed the party for numerous expenses that were apparently not authorized. Wiesniwski declined to provide specifics.

He said the professional audit was completed about two weeks ago. Since then, Hicks has repaid another $150 which Wiesniwski says was money derived from contributions that Hicks used to pay for his personal cell phone. There were items paid for that were "not appropriate," Wiesniwski said.

He said some electronic banking records were provided to the Adams County sheriff earlier this week and additional records will be turned over Friday.

"There was lot of trust there," said Wiesniwski, "but not much oversight."

Hicks, a Regional Transportation District bus driver and a former Westminster City Council member, told CBS4 whatever occurred was "accidental … not something I intentionally did." He said he resigned his position with the state Democratic Party over "some political stuff." When asked if his resignation was related to the Adams County flap, Hicks said, "I’m not supposed to talk about that," and referred questions to an attorney.
